Curso preparatório para
C1 Advanced
This 30-hour course focuses on the language skills required for the C1 Advanced examination – formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE). Students will have the opportunity to prepare for the exam practising the language necessary for all parts of the exam (Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking). Feedback will be given on learners’ progress throughout the course, enhancing their confidence.

The teacher will adopt an eclectic approach based on students´ needs. The main focus will be on practising the 4 different papers of the C1 Advanced examination covering grammar and vocabulary, reading and listening comprehension, writing and speaking practice.
The Use of English part of the exam requires students to be confident in using grammatical items such as articles, auxiliaries, prepositions, pronouns, verb tenses and forms, as well as lexico-grammatical structures, such as phrasal verbs, linkers and fixed phrases. This will be studied using authentic material and mock tests.
Concerning reading, the teacher will outline strategies and techniques for skimming and scanning for relevant information, speed reading, deducing meaning from context and interpreting different texts for inference and style.
The listening part of the exam requires exposure to different variations and accents, as well as various sources. The teacher will ensure that students have the opportunity to practice listening both in class and at home and then go through the answers clarifying any doubts.
Students will have plenty of practice writing the various different tasks required (essays, letters/emails, proposals, reports and reviews) and the teacher will give constructive individual feedback. In terms of speaking, mock exams will be practiced both in class at home via recordings sent to the teacher.
Classroom studies will be supported by guided homework and self-study throughout the course. Useful feedback will be given to each student throughout the course so as to identify areas that need improvement. Full mock tests will be given on a regular basis so that students will know exactly what the examination entails boosting their confidence to sit the exam in the future. The teacher will provide the material.
Having a C1 Advanced qualification can open doors as it shows that learners can follow an academic course at university level, communicate effectively at a professional level and express themselves with a high level of fluency.
